Partying in Rouen: which festivals?
Rouen, the capital of Normandy, is an important city in northern France, both historically and in terms of its heritage. When it comes to partying, the people of Rouen know where it's at! Events in Rouen are plentiful. From maritime events like the Armada to music festivals, the city is a force to be reckoned with.
Must-see festivals in Rouen
Rouen is a dynamic city with a wide range of festivals, including:
- Spring Festival: running through March and April, this festival showcases new forms of circus
- Festival Terre de Paroles: a travelling literary festival, scheduled for early October
- Game'in Rouen: a video games festival traditionally held at the end of January at the Kindarena
- Festival Normandie impressionniste: a multi-disciplinary celebration of Impressionism across Normandy, including Rouen
- Viva Cité Festival: open-air shows, day and night, with over 70 companies, held at the end of June.
- Les Musicales de Normandie: held at the beginning of August throughout the Normandy region, including Rouen.
- The Rush Festival: takes place in Rouen and its surrounding area at the end of June and beginning of July. The event features a host of artists and groups and a festive atmosphere.
And last but not least, a notorious event not to be missed under any circumstances:
- L'Armada de Rouen: this is a must-see event that brings together nautical fans, with sailboats and warships on display on the quays of Rouen. The event takes place every four to six years on the banks of the Seine, right in the heart of Normandy's capital, to the delight of locals and tourists alike!
- There are also a number of events focusing on local heritage:
- The Rouen flea market, in January, for lovers of second-hand goods, old objects and buried treasures.
- Graines de Jardin, a spring event held in the heart of Rouen's plant garden.
