Stroll through the Carmes district in Toulouse

Sharing

An emblematic district in the Pink City, the Carmes is located right in the city centre, on the right bank of the Garonne. This district is a meeting place for tourists and fans of old buildings. People come for the great cafés and restaurants, and students absolutely love it! What's so great about it? What are the must-sees and the best places to hang out?

Sightseeing and entertainment in the Carmes district of Toulouse

This area is a goldmine for eating out, having fun, shopping or delving into the past. Known for its warm and friendly atmosphere, here are a few of the must-sees in this part of central Toulouse:

  • Carmes covered market brings together local merchants offering fresh produce and local specialities every day except Mondays.
  • Place du Salin is a must-see for its beautiful architecture with pretty pink bricks and also its quality eateries.
  • Treat yourself to the best terraces and trendiest cafés in Toulouse's city centre, right by the Capitole and Arnaud-Bernard districts.
  • Take time out to visit Saint-Sernin Basilica and the Saint-Raymond museum, just around the corner.
  • The lively Rue de Metz and Place Esquirol are also must-sees, as is Notre-Dame de la Dalbade and "La Symphonie des Songes" a recently erected fresco and a masterpiece of street art by Miss Van.

Finding student accommodation in Toulouse city centre

If you're planning to start the new academic year in one of Toulouse's top universities, choosing accommodation in the city centre is a great idea.

If you're looking for functional, well-appointed accommodation, tailored to students' needs, opt for the Tolosa or Student Arena student residence ! They're both very close to Les Arènes metro stop, not far from Pont-Neuf and the friendly Carmes district.
